Jason Michaels Interview

Jason Michaels has written over 50 articles for CollegeHumor.com and is Pre Med at the University of Illinois.

RR:So how and why did you start submitting things to Collegehumor.com?

Great question! Not really. Just kidding. Anyways, I started writing articles for CollegeHumor during the first month of my sophomore year. Cool, right?

I chose to write for CollegeHumor because that was the only place that I thought people would get my humor. And cuz the site is really tight. That’s what he said! See what I mean?

RR:How do you get your ideas, is there a lot of planning or more off the cuff?

I get the majority of my ideas walking back from class. It’s the only time in my day when I can just think. However, over the summer when I interned with CollegeHumor, Streeter Seidell, Jake Hurwitz, and Jeff Rosenberg really helped my brainstorming process which hopefully keeps my articles consistently decent. I know that when I started writing I had five crappers for every one good one. I now like to think it’s a four-to-one ratio.

RR:Many of your submissions are actually pictures, do you use Adobe PS? If so how did you figure out that maze of filters and layers?

PSH. Adobe PS? HA! You make me laugh... I use a “Gigatron 9 System with a Dual-Getabase APS Color Sensor Modem.”

…Fine brain, I’ll tell him the truth…Yes “technically” “I” “use” “photoshop.” I figured out how to use it when I was a web-designer back in high-school. I started a company called wwwdormadvisor.com with a good buddy of mine. It’s pretty legit.

RR:Youre Pre-med at U of Illinois, is comedy in your future or science? which would you rather do?

Right now I am just keeping my options open. I love my biology classes but I also love making my mom and her co-ed softball team laugh. Go Cunning Cobras!

RR:Do people at school recognize you for your work at CH?

One time a girl at the bar thought I looked like someone she once knew, does that count?

RR:In one article you reference Counter Strike, do you play? do want to play? like right now?de_dust_24/7 baby

Yes. Yes. Yes. 58.35.30.035:27017;password scrim

GO! GO! GO!

p.s. I got a 5 digit steamed. No big deal.

Streeter Seidell Interview

Streeter Seidell is the Front page editor of Collegehumor.com He has appeared on VH1 and written for the the New Yorks Times.

RR:Your newest video Hardly Working:Best Buy Manager is hilarious I've watched it multiply times, how did that idea get started? How did you get authentic Best Buy polos with name tags? Also I don't mean to criticize but why is Steven drinking fruit punch?,someone of his body shape stays away from all fruit, even artificial corn syrup fruit, I could see him in more of a Mountain Dew Code Red or Mountain Dew Halo Edition Gaming Fuel.

SS:I don't exactly remember why I started doing that. I think sinus infections are very nerdy and I used to get them a lot. I also think Best Buy lifers are really nerdy and intense so the two just seemed to fit together. You can get almost any corporate shirt on eBay. As far as the fruit punch goes, drinking a huge jug of punch is about as nerdy as it gets. It's also way funnier to watch someone slam a jug of punch than a Mountain Dew. However, I'm actually drinking a blue Mountain Dew in the kitchen scene but that got cut.

RR:I dont know who plays the office Phantom but how did this character come to life?He is elicant.

SS:I have it on good word that after some horrific accident he donned a mask and, a few hundred years later, took a job at CH. His mask looks very similar to the one Vega wears in CH's 'Street Fighter: The Later Years" series.

RR:How did you get your start at College Humor?

SS:I just started writing for the site in college. When I graduated the site had just got a book deal and Amir, Sarah and I came on to write it.

RR:Where would you like to take your career in the future?

SS:I'm not entirely sure. I like acting and doing these stupid characters. I like writing videos and articles and have written for a lot of magazines and newspapers. I also enjoy cheeseburgers and always thought I would make a great grill cook. For now I'm just going to roll with the punches and see where my job here takes me.

RR: After Prank Wars, Does Sharon hate Amir?

SS:Nah, she's a cool lady. She doesn't hold onto grudges, except about me not walking our dog.

RR:Why are we the only people that watch It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia? Whenever I talk about it people think Im talking about weather.

SS:Sarah Schneider also watches it religiously. So now it's three people.

RR:Finally, your a Fordham Alum, I had a teacher in highschool that went to Fordham and he told stories of the University during the 1970s, involving exotic animals roaming the halls and epic bar fights,What was a defining moment for you at school? What was the most obsurd thing you saw? You wouldnt happen to know who Weapon is?

SS:I can't say I was privy to any of that at Fordham. the 70's in the Bronx were a rough, terrifying time but when I started in 2001 the neighborhood was tolerably safe. I don't think I had a 'defining moment' at school, but once - and only once - this kid at a party was like "Yo, Streeter! CollegeHumor guy!" I thought that was pretty awesome since nobody at my school really knew what the site was. I did see some interesting things - the Bronx is full of them - like a dude dressed in full cowboy regalia getting arrested for riding a horse down Fordham Road, which is a big, congested main road in a teeming, congested borough of the city. I couldn't even imagine where he got a horse in the first place. And no, I don't know who Weapon is and, by the sound of his name, I'd like to keep it that way.

RR: Medival Times bro when we goin?

SS:Hopefully never again. That place is garbage.

Ben Schwartz Interview!

RR: Hey Ben! I love the stuff you have done on CH.com, do you have time for some quick questions?
BS: Hey man,
here are some quick answers.  Thanks for asking me.

RR:You have worked with both Letterman and Conan which do you prefer as comedians/bosses?
BS: I've unfortunately never worked with them personally, so can't really answer this question. For letterman i faxed in jokes and for conan played bit characters in sketches only a few times.

RR:How/when did you find out you were on IMDB?
BS: Ummm, I think it was after I did a movie called New York City Serenade.

RR:When do you think you'll make it on wikipedia?
BS: Whenever the President of the Internet thinks I deserve it.

RR:What TV shows/movies have you seen recently that you think are humorous
BS:The King of Kong: Fistfull of Quarters is fucking awesome.

RR:Where would you like to take your career?
BS:I'm doing more writing and acting in movies and TV which has been a lot of fun.

RR:How do you get your hair like that?blow dry or no?
BS:Never blow dry and sadly never really brushed it.  I just put in some product and cross my fingers. Sometimes I fail, sometimes I nail it.

RR:Where do you keep your Webby award/framed nomination?
BS:I just got the framed noms, I'm giving them to my parents to do with it what they wish. They currently rest near to my Calvin and Hobbes books.

RR:You make some great web videos like High Times Office,do you think the internet is the future of media?
BS:
Collegehumor should really take the credit for those high times videos but I'm psyched to be a part of them and help out anyway I can.  What i've learned from the stuff I've done for my website rejectedjokes.com and superdeluxe, is that internet videos are a great medium to get your stuff out there.  For people starting off, you can create something and millions of people could see it.  Also for someone like me who performs, it allows people who can't see you live to get a sense of your comedy, which is great.

tell me if that works, thanks man,
B

Jake Hurwitz Interview

Jake Hurwitz is the man. If you don't know he is a Junior write for Collegehumor.com and also co-creator of JakeandAmir.com.He lives in Manhattan and can be found on T-shirts sold on BustedTees.com or performing live at the UCB.

RR: Borrowing a question from your own WYR, Would you rather Make a lion submit to your will and let you bone it or not ever do the manliest thing ever?

Haha, I don't think I ever want to bone a lion. But I also don't think it's the manliest thing ever... So I guess there's an inherent flaw with this particular WYR.

RR:Your work with Amir is truly funny, how did those come about?what is your process in making a typical Jake & Amir video?

They're really just the product from sitting across from someone as fun to be around as Amir. We've always joked around together, in a way, the characters began being developed before we started filming anything. The process is relatively simple now that we have more defined roles, but basically we think of an idea, shoot it, and then Amir edits it. We are usually inspired by typical every day scenarios but we also take advantage of things that come up, for instance, our
vacations to Florida or Nantucket.

RR:CollegeHumor.com seems like a very laid back fun work environment, what is the least productive thing you have done at work?

Haha, it's hard to say. A lot of the work we do is so fun that it feels like it's unproductive. Like, being on the set of Bohemian Rhapsody, it felt like we were just hanging out with our friends all day, but it ended up being a popular video. It's awesome the way that works out.

RR:How did you get started at CollegeHumor?

I get asked that a lot, and I always feel like my answer is too long. I'll try to shorten it up- I wrote from college, interned, and then was hired. That's pretty simple, right?

RR:Where would you like to take your bright career in the future?

Thanks for the compliment. I'm not sure where I see myself in the future. Right now I'm having a lot of fun and I think I'll keep at what I'm doing for a while. I guess my goal is to do more of the same for a growing audience.

Hope those answers are alright, thanks for the questions!
